ABOUT ~

A life-long horsewoman, Meg McKinney has merged her passion for horses with her professional photographic career, and named her new venture, Manes and Paws.

Meg grew up in New Jersey on a Dorset sheep farm, where she showed American Saddlebred horses in gaited pleasure classes at local shows and in 4-H.  As  a Stephens College, Columbia, MO, student, she took classes in 3-gaited, 5-gaited, side saddle, and fine harness.

Her expertise is applied to photographing your horse(s), and companions with paws, at your stables or home.

She combines her talents and experiences in photojournalism, with the efficiency of her daily newspaper photography background, and her love of animals, to create her images, which are artfully composed, capturing that special moment. Please visit the GALLERY section.

As a 14-year Southern Living staff photographer, Meg specialized in on-location photography assignments throughout the American South, Caribbean, and Mexico. As viewed in the GALLERY section, many of her images are from stories about horse related topics, and were published in the magazine.

She draws upon her professional background as a newspaper photographer, corporate freelance, and lifestyle magazine shooter, efficiently using her (and your) time. She has a Master of Arts degree in photojournalism from the University of Missouri.

During her newspaper years her unusual work schedule allowed her to ride during weekday mornings. She exercised a variety of horses --- Thoroughbred hunter-jumpers, Arabian endurance, Tennessee Walking horses, and 5-gaited Saddlebreds --- for their owners who were often too busy during the week to ride, or on maternity leave.
